Message from the President

As the President of the IMU, I am very pleased to welcome you to our home on the Internet.

The IMU, founded in 1992, is Malaysia’s first private medical educational institution. The University enjoys an international reputation, and provides a high standard of education at the undergraduate level. English is the medium of instruction.

The University has always placed a high value on its undergraduate studies. We have expanded our undergraduate programmes beyond medical, pharmacy and nursing programmes to dentistry and health sciences programmes.

We believe our courses to be progressive and innovative, and we strive to use best practices in their delivery and assessment. In tandem with the introduction of these new programmes, the IMU has embarked on the expansion of its facilities at the Bukit Jalil campus. For many years we have upheld a proud record of funding for research, and we have established a solid reputation for research achievements in many different fields and across many different disciplines. This reputation has attracted talented teachers and students to the University, further enhancing the quality of our research. Research is important for teaching as the former feeds into the latter and teaching that is not grounded in research is mere speculation. IMU strongly encourages research activities and and funds them generously Researchers at IMU have regular strategic planning sessions to identify new areas for research.

In addition, the University provides strong administrative support for students who are seeking financial assistance from various private and government sponsors. This is important to reflect IMU’s image as a caring university for our students as well. We also provide IMU scholarships. Other financial assistance include participation in interuniversity co-curriculum activities, rental of sports facilities, facilitating hostel accommodation as well as counseling services for students.

Life in IMU is not only about studies. Our students form their own societies and clubs that include sports clubs, cultural and language club, dance and music, photography and so on. We have only recently renovated the student lounge at the Bukit Jalil campus for various indoor games and for relaxation. There is also a fully-equipped gymnasium and a dance studio with apt sound system for all students to use.<

In line with our aim to develop caring healthcare professionals, the IMU students have been involved in various community projects including the “Kampung Angkat” project to provide health education, health screening, and free tuition service to the orphanage among others.

Medicine, dentistry and health sciences programmes have always been interesting paths to explore. There are many fascinating courses that open up attractive career paths. I would like to take this opportunity to advise students to learn more about a particular profession before they pursue any of these courses in order to ensure a better future for themselves.

I encourage you to peruse our website and to visit it often. It will take you on a fascinating journey through the vibrant and diverse online community that is the IMU.
