The IMU-Ron Harden Innovation in Medical Education (IMU-RHIME) Award was first introduced for the International Medical Education Conference, 2008 to fulfill two objectives:
- to encourage innovations in medical and health professions education
- to recognise innovations by academics which otherwise might go unnoticed
The award honours Professor Ronald Harden who played a crucial role in the inception of the International Medical University (IMU) is a prestigious award because Ron is widely accepted as a “guru” in medical education worldwide.
It is my pleasure to invite you to submit innovations for the 7th International Medical Education Conference (IMEC) scheduled for 24 - 26 March 2010. The rules for submitting innovations to be considered for the IMU-RHIME Award are as follows:
- There is no limit to the number of innovations. However, at least ONE author of each innovation MUST register for the Conference.
- The title and extended abstract should not reveal the name of the workplace, to ensure anonymity
- The extended abstract should be not more than 500 words and must contain (a) The introduction/ background of why this innovation is necessary (b) Description of the innovation (c) Results of evaluation (if already done) (e) Discussion (f) References. Please use single spacing and Arial, font size 11
- Tested innovations will be at an advantage. However, innovative ideas will also be weighed on their merits
Submissions may be made to the IMEC website www.imu.edu.my/imec2010 before 31 December 2009.
Four innovations will be short-listed by a panel of international judges. The authors of the short-listed innovations will be informed by e-mail. The short-listed innovations need to be presented during a plenary session during the IMEC to the IMEC participants and a panel of judges appointed to evaluate the innovations. The innovation that is identified by the panel of judges will be presented with the IMU-RHIME Award certificate, a cash prize of Ringgit Malaysia Two Thousand (RM2,000) and the name of the first author will be engraved on the rolling trophy. Innovators whose abstracts are not short-listed for the IMU RHIME Award will be invited to present their paper under the Free Paper category.
