What is Cardiac life support?
The Cardiac Life Support (CLS) course is specifically designed to aid medical students to gain knowledge and skills needed to identify, assess and manage patients with cardiac crisis or emergencies. During the course, students will be led through resuscitative drugs and their uses, airway management skills, hands-on stations (Megacodes) and the art of reading the ECG patterns followed by the management of their abnormalities. The students are expected to sit for a pre-test and a post-test in order to identify any shortfalls, and areas of improvement to make the course more beneficial for the students. At the end of the course, successful participants will be awarded a certificate of completion.
Learning Objectives
- Describe BLS Primary Survey and CLS/ACLS secondary survey
- Understand each step of the management of cardiac emergencies and apply to each clinical situation
- Describe specific assessment and management of most cardiac emergencies
- Be able to perform CPR
- Identify cardiac rhythms and treat these appropriately
- Identify and initiate appropriate management in patients with ACS
- Identify and initiate appropriate management in patients with stroke
- Understand the importance of post-resuscitative care and apply it appropriately
