Admission to the IMU
Admission into the IMU is based on the academic qualifications set and recognised by the IMU and the applicant's performance during the interview which is an integral part of the selection process.


Intakes into IMU Programmes

Results will be announced two weeks after each closing date, although early offers may also be given. Admission into the IMU is competitive and, therefore, no applicant is guaranteed a seat.


Admission Requirements

  • All applicants for the medicine, dentistry and pharmacy programmes are expected to obtain at least an overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS upon submission of an application. However, students opting for the PMS option would be expected to obtain an IELTS band score of 7.0 or above prior to entering the matching exercise. The Ministry of Education stipulates that all students entering universities in Malaysia must sit for the MUET regardless of having other English qualifications. In addition to this, all registered students are required to sit for the IMU English Placement Test during the orientation week. International students are not required to sit for the MUET.
  • In 2010, all applicants for the medical, dentistry and pharmacy are expected to obtain at least an overall band score of 7.0 or better in IELTS upon submission of an application.
  • International applicants are advised to check with the Admission Counsellors on their eligibility to apply.
  • International students applying for the medical or pharmacy programme are required to check with the respective professional bodies in the countries they wish to work in, on registration issues.


Applicants with any enquiries about the acceptability of their qualifications should write to the Admissions Office, giving detailed information about their academic background, nationality and permanent residence status.


Application Procedures
  • Application forms can be downloaded from this website. Application forms may also be obtained from the Admissions Office on the ground floor of the IMU main campus. Applicants must ensure that the minimum entry requirements are met before submitting an application. Admission into the IMU is competitive and therefore, no applicant is guaranteed a seat.
  • For the medical and dentistry programmes, a processing fee of RM300 (Medicine & Dentistry) for Malaysians/ USD 300 (Medicine & Dentistry) for International Students is required upon submission of the form. Pharmacy, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medical Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Psychology, Nutrition & Dietetics students are required to pay a processing fee of RM150 (Malaysians) / USD150 (International Students). This fee is not refundable regardless of the outcome of the application. All cheques or bank drafts enclosed must be made payable to "IMU Education Sdn Bhd".
  • Students applying into the medical programme must choose their clinical training option (IMU Clinical School or Partner Medical Schools abroad) at the time of application. Upon successful completion of Phase 1 (2 ½ years), students are then transferred to the clinical training option either at the IMU Clinical School in Seremban or the Partner Medical Schools (PMS) abroad, as indicated in the offer letter.
  • Students applying into the dentistry programme must choose their option (IMU BDS or Partner Dental Schools abroad) at the time of application. Upon successful completion of Phase 1 (2 ½ years), students are then continued for IMU BDS or transferred to the Partner Dental Schools (PDS) abroad, as indicated in the offer letter.
  • The IMU does not appoint any agents to recruit students on its behalf.


Compulsory Subjects
The Private College Act (Section 34(3) Act IPTA 1997) under the Malaysian Education policy requires students to attend a course of instruction in Bahasa Kebangsaan (National Language), Pengajian Agama/Moral (Moral and Religious Studies) and Pengajian Malaysia (Malaysian Cultural Studies). At the end of the courses, Malaysian students are required to sit for the examinations. Students must pass all the papers during their time at the IMU. International students are not required to take the compulsory subjects.


About the Interview
For medicine and dentistry programmes, apart from the academic qualifications, the IMU seeks additional information on applicants before a final decision on the selection of students is made for our various courses. Our oral interview process is designed to provide us with further insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates.

Interviewers will be looking for evidence that you meet our various qualitative admission criteria. These include your interests and enthusiasm in the profession you have chosen to enter into, as well as your motivation, communication skills and other traits related to the profession.

Knowledge of medicine or dentistry will not be assessed during the interview. The interview panel would also assess your interest in current issues, your stand on "controversial" issues as well as on how you may respond to difficult situations.

For your interview, you are required to bring all the original academic certificates, wear formal attire and be present at least 30 minutes earlier before the scheduled time.

The result of your application will be mailed to you after two weeks (14 days) from the programme application closing date.
