This is required for all medical students studying in the United States. Any IMU Students wishing to be matched with Jefferson Medical College must pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE Step 1) before transfer.

Students with a first degree on entry may transfer after 2 ½ years in the IMU. Students without first degree will have to spend another year to complete BMed Sc (IMU) to be eligible for transfer to Queensland.

Based on academic performance, a student may require to undertake clinical training for a period of 2 to 3 years in Queensland.

General Medical Council accreditation of the medical degree of Keele, IMU students who transfer to Keele will be awarded the accreditated medical degree from the University of Manchester.


Matching Process for Students Going to Partner Medical Schools (PMS) Abroad
The matching process is carried out early in the fifth semester. It is computerised and completely impartial. The students state their choice of PMS in strict order of preference. The PMS also rank the students based on their academic performance, student attributes and involvement in co-curricular activities. The computerised programme gives 5 times greater weighting to the students' choice over the PMS ranking of students.

USMLE Step 1 - This is required for all medical students studying in the United States. Therefore, any IMU students wishing to be matched with Jefferson Medical College must pass the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) Step 1 prior to transfer.

Students who test positive for Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) can only be matched to Canadian Partner Medical Schools.

Applicants who are citizens from countries where the IMU's Partner Medical Schools (PMS) are located will not be eligible to apply for admission into the IMU-PMS option. These countries are Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, and member countries of the European Union. However, applicants may apply to the IMU Clinical School in Malaysia. The IMU is not responsible for housemanship training.

Applicants with a PR status in any of the countries mentioned above may apply for the IMU-PMS option, but the choice of PMS will be restricted as follows: Students who are matched to Canadian partner school will not be allowed to remain in Canada follwoing completion of the medical training for any purpose, including postgraduate medical training in Canada.

Students with citizenship and permanent resident status in Europe, Australasia, Canada and United States are advised to check with the Department of Admission & Student Affairs on their eligibility to apply. Students with Permanent Residence Status in the following countries cannot be matched for admission into the following Partner Medical Schools:
