The IMU students can apply for the study loans from:



National Higher Education Fund (NHEF)/Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)
The NHEF was established by our Government to ensure that Malaysian students who are not financially well off could still obtain a good education in a Malaysian university. Since the end of 1999, IMU medical students are eligible to apply for this fund. It is only applicable to students who undertake to complete the entire course of their medical study in Malaysia leading to the MB BS (IMU).

Now, the IMU Pharmacy, Dentistry and other health sciences students are also eligible for NHEF loan for the years of their courses in IMU, Malaysia.

Terms and Conditions

1. Students are eligible for a maximum loan of:

MBBS RM15,000 per semester RM150,000 for 5 years

Master of Pharmacy (2.5 + 1 years)

RM10,000 per semester RM50,000 for 2.5 years
Master of Pharmacy (2 + 2 years) RM10,000 per semester RM40,000 for 2 years
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) RM10,000 per semester
  • RM100,000 for 5 years (IMU option)
  • RM50,000 for 2.5 years (PDS option)
    Bachelor of Nursing, Pharmacy, Nutrition & Dietetics RM10,000 per semester RM80,000 for 4 years
    Bachelor of Psychology RM8,250 per semester RM49,500 for 3 years
    Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry RM10,000 per semester RM60,000 for 3years
    • The NHEF management board charges an administration cost of 3% per year of the remaining loan sum.
    • Students will be required to obtain insurance coverage, and the permium will be deducted from their loan as a one-off payment by the NHEF (will be deducted from first payment only). The premium is estimated to be about RM400 to RM500).
    • The payback period is over 20 years.
    • Payback period will commence 6 months after graduation, or when the students start a job, which ever applies first. For partnership or twinning option students, payback will commence 6 months after the end of loan period (completed phase 1 at IMU).

    How to Make an Application
    An application is only accepted from a student that has already registered in the IMU. Application forms can be purchased at RM5 each from the IMU Cashier Office or from the NHEF counter at KL Sentral.

    Closing dates for applications are 10 March, 10 April, 10 August and 10 September every year.

    The following documents must accompany your application.

    • A certified copy of the letter of acceptance (admission offer) letter from the IMU (student who received confitional offer, must submit both confiational and confirmed offer letter).
    • A certified copy of applicant’s identity card.
    • A certified copy of both parents’ income tax B or BE or EA forms or pay slip or pension statement forms/card (if they are not civil servants)
    • A certified copy of parents’ pension card (if they are retired civil servant).
    • A certified copy of SPM certificate (SPM results slip is only valid for 2 years after the date of SPM examination). Students without SPM (e.g. O-Level) must show proof that their parents have been sent by the government to work or study in other countries.
    • A certified copy of pre-university results (students with A-level qualification must submit the final certificates issued by the Examiniation Board. Certificate of provosional results is not acceptable) .
    • A certified copy of student's bank account book (the page which states the account number). CIMB bank only. Joint account is not accepted.
    • A certified copy of MUET results (Bachelor of Nursing students ONLY)
    • Current student must submit a certified copy of the IMU examination results and a verification letter from Student Affairs, IMU.


    NOTE:
    • Certification of document MUST ONLY be done by the following authorities:
      • Student Affairs, IMU
      • Government Office (Division A) e.g. Secondary school headmaster/principal/Ketua Kampung/Penghulu/EXCO members.
      • Comissioner of Oath (Refer to the list that are available at http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/component/option.com_wrapper/Ltemid.144 (Please call to ensure that their servicers are still available)
    • Loan will be disbursed through the student's CIMB bank account according to the following schedule:
    • First payment: 11 working days upon submission of agreement
    • Following payment: MBBS: May & November / BPharm, MPharm and BNursing: March / September
    • Students are responsible to pay tuition fees of every semester to IMU by deadlines stated in the invoice.

      Criteria for Eligibility

    • Must be a Malaysian citizen aged 45 and below.
    • Is presently not sponsored by any Government agency such as MARA or JPA.
    • The student must undertake the complete medical degree programme in the IMU. This means that the second part of training must be at the IMU Clinical School in Seremban.
    • Applicants must have SPM qualification with at least 3 credits. Students without SPM (e.g. O-Level) must show proof that their parents have been sent by the government to work or study in other countries.
    • Students who have received NHEF loan through previous colleges/universities but failed or have not completed their course, are required to terminate the contract and make full repayment at the NHEF before new application can be made.
    • Students who possess an existing university degree and have received the NHEF loan prior to admission into IMU are not eligible to apply. NHEF does not sponsor students for the same level of studies twice.
    • Student must have at least one academic year remaining at IMU. Therefore, application must be made at least in the following semesters:
      • MBBS, Dentistry (IMU option) - Semester 8
      • Dentistry (PDS option), MPharm (2.5 + 2) - Semester 3
      • MPharm (2 + 2) - Semester s
      • BPharm, BNursing, Nutrition and Dietetics - Semester 6
      • Biomedical Science, Medical Biotechnology - Semester 4
    • Effective 2008, applicant must have the SSPN (National Education Saving Scheme) account. Minimum saving is RM3,000 for family who earns monthly income of RM2,000 and above and a minimum saving of RM500 for salary less than RM2,000. SSPN account can be opened at the NHEF's office at Damansara Heights or its agents at any CIMB or BSN banks. SSPN account must be opened at least 2 weeks prior to loan application.

    Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) (Public Service Department)
      A. General Information
    • The loan is available for medical students pursuing clinical training at Partner Medical Schools (PMS) and for Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) students completing two (2) years at the University of Strathclyde.
    • Maximum loan provided of RM200,000 is to cover tuition fees only.


      B. Criteria for Eligibility
    • Must be a Malaysian and aged below 25 years old at the time of application.
    • Has never failed in any subjects in year 1, 2, 3 and 4 for medicine and year 1, 2, 3 for MPharm.


      C. Additional Information
    • Approval is not guaranteed even though student meets the application criteria/requirement.
    • The loan is interest-free. Repayment of loan is after graduation.
    • Students who receive loan from JPA can be exempted from repayment if they agree to be bonded to serve the government for 10 years after completion of studies (for both medical & pharmacy programmes).


      D. How To Make an Application
    • Application form must be done online through the JPA website (http://www.jpa.gov.my).
    • For medical student, the application can be made after one year at PMS (i.e. semester 2 in year 4). Maximum load provided is RM200,000.
    • For MPharm student, the application can be made after one year at the University of Strathclyde (i.e. semester 1 in year 4). Loan provided is to cover tuition fees for 1 to 1 ½ years.
    • Closing dates for application are 28 February (for students transferred to Australia, New Zealand and Dalhousie, Canada) and 31 August (United Kingdom, Ireland, USA and Canada).
    • Confirmation slip of online application and other supporting document (e.g. IC, passport, parents income statement, examination results) must be sent to JPA by 10 March (for February deadline) or 10 September (for August deadline).
    • Certification of supporting document must be done only by the Commissioner of Oaths, Division A government officers or Ketua Kampung/Penghulu.
    • Cost on tuition fees and other expenses including living cost must be enclosed.
    • Refer checklist for other documents to be enclosed.
    • JPA will take 40 days to process application.



    Kuok Foundation
      A. Conditions for Application
    • Only Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply.
    • Kuok Foundation study awards are for needy students only.
    • Applicants should possess good academic qualifications and should be active in school.
    • Only medical students are permitted to hold the NHEF loan concurrently with the Kuok Foundation study award.


      B. Eligibility
    • This financial aid is only for Bachelor of Pharmacy and medical students completing entire 5 years course in IMU.


      C. Time of Application
    • July/August every year. Kuok Foundation will write to IMU and announce in the local news media to invite interested students to apply.


      D. Procedure for Application
    • Applicants can obtain application forms from Student Affairs, IMU or the Kuok Foundation office. All applications must be submitted before the closing date stipulated in the announcement. Late applications will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for interview.


      E. Type of Award
    • Interest free study loan or ½ loan ½ grants. No service bond.


      F. Value of Award
    • The range of funding will be from RM16,000 (pharmacy) to RM25,000 (medicine) per year. (subject to revision from time to time).


      G. Repayment of Loan
    • Repayment is by monthly instalments commencing one (1) month after completion of course.

    PETRONAS Convertible Loan
    Petronas is offering convertible study loan for medical students who undertake to complete the entire course of ther medical study in Malaysia leading to the MB BS (IMU). The loan will cover full tuition fees. Applicant must not hold other study loan/scholarship, including NHEF.

      A. Criteria for Eligibility
    • The financial aid is only for medical students completing entire 5 years course in IMU. Only student in Year 1, 2 and 3 who are nominated by the IMU based on academic background are eligible to apply. .


      B. Eligibility
    • August every year. Petronas will write to IMU to nominate students for application.


      C. Procedure for Application
    • Applicants must apply online through the Petronas website: http://iptxonline.petronas.com.my by the closing date stipulated in the announcement. Late applications will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for interview.


      D. Value of Award
    • The loan covers full tuition fees, RM6,000 per year for living allowance, RM800 per year for books and RM150 per year for stationary/tools.


      E. Repayment Loan
    • Repayment is by monthly instalments commencing one (1) month after completion of course. However, the loan will be converted to scholarship of the students do well in exams and therefore need to serve Petronas for 10 years.

    Employee Provident Fund (EPF) Withdrawal Procedures
    This scheme allows qualified EPF members to withdraw their savings form the Account No: 2 to finance their children's study. Withdrawals are allowed for local and overseas education. Maximum withdrawals will depend on the amount of funds the parents have in their Account No: 2 as well as how much the university's fees are. Members can apply for this scheme on every semester (twice withdrawal in one academic year), or every academic year (one time withdrawal in an academic year), or overall module fees.
