Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Syed Mohamed Aljunid is a Public Health Medicine Consultant and Professor of Health Economics, Policy and Management at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), as well as Professor of Community Medicine at IMU University. A pioneer in health economics and healthcare financing, he was the first Malaysian to obtain a PhD in Health Economics and Financing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has more than 30 years of experience in health policy, financing, and health systems research. A prolific researcher, educator, and mentor, he has authored over 300 publications, supervised more than 50 PhD candidates, and was recognised among Stanford University’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists in 2025. His work continues to shape healthcare financing, policy development, and health system strengthening both in Malaysia and globally.
