Dr. David A. Cook is a Professor of Medical Education and Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, where he also serves as a Consultant in the Division of General Internal Medicine. As an internist and internationally recognized medical education researcher, Dr. Cook is committed to advancing how healthcare professionals are trained, assessed, and supported in their lifelong learning.

Dr. Cook's research focuses on the development and evaluation of innovative educational methods and assessment tools that enhance clinical decision-making and competency in medical practice. His work explores the use of educational technologies, including simulation-based learning and computer-assisted instruction, as well as the cost-effectiveness and value of medical education strategies. Through this work, he aims to ensure that physicians and health professionals receive effective, evidence-based training that directly improves patient care outcomes.

With over two decades of contribution to the field, Dr. Cook has held several influential editorial and leadership roles. He currently serves as Deputy Editor for Medical Education and is on the editorial board of Simulation in Healthcare. His past editorial positions include Advances in Health Sciences Education, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and others.

His achievements have been recognized by numerous awards, including the Researcher of the Year Award (2023) from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the Distinguished Educator Award (2021) from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He also chaired the Invited Review Committee of the Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education from 2010 to 2022.

Dr. Cook earned his M.D. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and his M.H.P.E. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his internal medicine training and fellowship at Mayo Clinic.
