Dr Iffat Khanim is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases (ID), Department of Medicine at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). She is actively engaged in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and has made significant contributions to curriculum development, teaching, and clinical training.
She served as the Year 4 MBBS Infectious Diseases Rotation Coordinator for six years, during which she led the reform of the Year 4 ID rotation curriculum. In recognition of her contributions, she was appointed Co-Chair of the Year 4 MBBS Committee at AKUH in January 2024. She also serves as the Director of the Adult Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at AKUH since 2020, overseeing the academic and clinical training of fellows.
Dr Khanum is a registered Internal Medicine Fellowship Supervisor with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), and has mentored numerous residents and fellows, supervising both their clinical training and research projects.
She completed her master in health professions education (MHPE) at AKUH in December 2023, further enhancing her expertise in curriculum design, educational leadership, and assessment.
Dr Khanum has organised and led a wide range of educational activities, including CMEs, workshops, and seminars, serving as both director and facilitator, within AKUH and at national platforms.
As both a clinician and clinician educator, she is deeply passionate about teaching and mentoring future physicians. Her approach blends innovative teaching methods, integration of technology, and learner-centered curricula to cultivate not only clinical competence but also critical thinking, compassion, and a dedication to lifelong learning. Her commitment to advancing medical education reflects her belief that's guiding and shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals is not just a professional duty but a deeply personal calling.
