Kulsoom Ghias is Professor and Chair, Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at the Aga Khan University (AKU) in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her PhD and post-doctoral training at Northwestern University’s Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago, USA. She received her Advanced Diploma in Health Professions Education from AKU in 2015 and was recognised as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (previously the Higher Education Academy of United Kingdom) in 2017.
Dr Ghias has a keen interest in bioethics and bioethics education. She teaches bioethics and research ethics at the undergraduate and graduate levels, is involved in ethics related research and supervision of graduate students and was the lead editor and an author of Bioethics in Pakistan: Local Contexts, Local Cases published by Lightstone Publishers, Karachi, Pakistan in 2023. She is an inaugural member of the Haile T Debas Teachers Academy at AKU, where she has held several educational leadership positions. Internationally, Dr Ghias has previously chaired the AMEE ASPIRE Academy and is currently Vice Chair of the AMEE ASPIRE Board.
