Madawa Chandratilake is the Chair and Professor of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He has specialized in Medical Education. At present, he is the Head of the Department of Medical Education at the same university and the Head of the UNESCO Bioethics Nodal Centre in Sri Lanka.
Madawa’s primary research area is medical education. He is the co-founder of the research network, Studies in Ethical and Moral Reasoning in Asia. He has been involved in GHRU activities in Sri Lanka primarily in developing professional development courses for healthcare workers in the area of NCDs. He has made significant contributions to medical education, with over 1,467 citations in various research areas including assessment and professionalism.
Madawa is a regional lead of the GHRU in Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease in South Asia of the capacity building programme and a member of the NIHR Global Health Research Programme Training Steering Group of the NIHR Academy.
In 2025, Madawa Chandratilake was awarded the Medical Education Developing Scholarship Award, highlighting his achievements in the field.
