Dr Mahwish Arooj is an esteemed Medical Educationist and Researcher with over a decade of experience in the field. Currently serving as the Principal of the University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) and a Member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Lahore, Dr.Arooj has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing medical education and research.
Her academic credentials include an MBBS, an MPhil, a PhD in Physiology, and a master’s degree in medical education. Dr Arooj's post-doctoral research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard University, has significantly enriched her expertise in both research and education.
As a Professor of Physiology and the Director of the Department of Medical Education at the University of Lahore, Dr. Arooj has played a pivotal role in developing an integrated modular curriculum and establishing a Digital Assessment Centre at UCMD. She has organized over 200 workshops, training thousands of participants, and is a certified Master Trainer. Her commitment to faculty development and medical education extends to her involvement in various degree programs and workshops.
Dr Arooj’s contributions to medical education are further highlighted by her significant role as a member of the PMDC WFME Cell, where she played a crucial part in securing WFME recognition for the PMDC. Her efforts in this area were acknowledged with a Certificate of Appreciation from the President of PMDC. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Studies at the University of Health Sciences and Equator University, Uganda and has been instrumental in arranging seven international conferences in medical education, the International Conference on Health Professions Education (ICHPE), the largest of its kind in Pakistan.
In her editorial roles, Dr Arooj serves as the Chief Editor of the Journal of University College of Medicine and Dentistry (JUCMD) and the Health Profession Educator Journal (HPEJ) and has contributed to over 60 publications in the fields of Physiology and Medical Education.
Dr Arooj is also a founding member of the Medical Women’s Association of Pakistan. She has hosted numerous awareness and training sessions on critical health issues such as thalassemia, breast cancer, and mental health. Her impactful work in these areas has earned her a Presidential Certificate of Appreciation and a certificate from the First Lady of Pakistan.
