Dr Mai S. Sater is an accomplished academic and researcher, currently serving as an Assistant Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) in Bahrain. She holds an MD degree from the Arabian Gulf University (2009) and a BSc in Medical Research from the University of Manitoba, Canada (2006). Driven by her passion for neuroscience, she pursued a PhD in Integrated Neuroscience at McGill University, Canada, which she completed in 2017.
Dr Sater has over 40 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, focusing on areas such as chronic inflammation, diabetes, and biomarkers for sepsis and other metabolic disorders. Her research has contributed significantly to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes. She has also been involved in various administrative roles at AGU, including chairing the Mentorship Program and serving on multiple committees related to curriculum development, research, and quality assurance.
In addition to her academic and research achievements, Dr. Sater has completed executive education programs at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, focusing on leadership, conflict resolution, and negotiation. She is a licensed medical practitioner in Bahrain and has clinical experience in neurology and neurosurgery. Dr Sater’s dedication to advancing medical science and education has earned her numerous awards, including a full postgraduate scholarship for her PhD studies and the Bahrain Prime Minister Honorary Award.
Dr Sater continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical education and research in the Gulf region, mentoring students, and leading innovative research projects aimed at improving healthcare outcomes.
