Dr. Muhammad Shahid Shamim is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), UK, and a PhD in Medical Education from the University of New South Wales, Australia. He holds a Master’s in Health Professions Education (MHPE) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioethics from the Centre of Biomedical Ethics and Culture. He is a distinguished academician, educator and surgeon with a career spanning over two decades. Currently, Dr. Shamim serves as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Professor of Medical Education at Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, Pakistan. In addition to his administrative role, he actively contributes to developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in education, bioethics, and public health. He is also engaged in curriculum development, research, and faculty training through collaborations with other institutions. In the past, Dr. Shamim has held multiple leadership roles in surgery and medical education at institutions such as Dow University of Health Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, and Ziauddin Medical University. Additionally, he is the Finance Secretary of the Pakistan Medical Association (Center) and holds adjunct and visiting faculty positions at esteemed institutions in Pakistan. Dr. Shamim is an active researcher with over 50 publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals. He has secured multiple research grants and contributed book chapters. He also authored the Ethics Training Manual for Healthcare Professionals for the International Committee of the Red Cross. As a dedicated educator, he has designed and conducted over 150 faculty development workshops worldwide, enhancing educators' knowledge, skills, and attitudes to improve the quality of health professions education and delivery.
