Professor Dr Nilesh Kumar Mitra has been teaching anatomy to medical and health science students for the last 28 years and topics of Health Professions Education to post-graduate students for the last 12 years. He has worked as Dean of Teaching and Learning as well as Associate Dean of Technology-Enhanced Learning at IMU University. He has led several faculty development activities at the national and international levels. Apart from being a medical doctor and anatomist, he is a medical educationist and completed a master's in education. His proficiency in the application of e-learning brought him an e-Learning Achievement Award from IMU University in 2018 and a bronze award in the International University Carnival on e-learning at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2024.
Prof Nilesh has worked as curriculum coordinator of the pre-clinical phase of the IMU MBBS program for many years and played a significant role in the developmentof an integrated system-based medical curriculum and the initiation of online Moodle-based assessment at IMU University. He has earned several national and international awards, including the Liza Chako Memorial Gold Medal for Best Publication in the Journal of Anatomical Society of India 2006, Best Poster Award in Asia-Pacific Congress of Anatomy 2016, and Best Oral Presentation award in MAEMHS conference 2018. He has facilitated many workshops and symposiums in IMEC, APMEC and AMEE. His interest and expertise are in the field of technology-enhanced learning, case-based learning, flipped classes, student support and curriculum development. He is presently the president of the Asia Pacific Association on Problem-Based Learning in Health Sciences (APA-PHS).
