ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr Savithri Sathivelu
MBChB
Resident Doctor,
Royal Free London NHS Trust, United Kingdom
[email protected]
Dr Sathivelu is a recent medical graduate from the University of Aberdeen who is currently working as a resident doctor in London. However, her journey to medicine began far from the granite city, but here at the International Medical University. Having trained in two vastly different institutions, across continents, she developed a deep appreciation for the diversity and adaptability of medical education systems worldwide. This transnational experience sparked her curiosity about how educational frameworks shape clinical practice and how culture, equity, and access influence learning environments.
Throughout her academic journey, she has been particularly drawn to the evolving discourse around equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in medical education. Having contributed to research examining EDI themes and also having had the opportunity to present on the student experience of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, looking into how it has reshaped our understanding of flexibility, resilience, and the digital delivery of education.
She has always been drawn to medical education for the opportunity to both learn from others and contribute meaningfully to a growing, collaborative community. Interested particularly in how we can design inclusive, evidence-based learning experiences that serve not only diverse student populations but also reflect the needs of an evolving healthcare system. She aims to share insights from her own experiences navigating medical training across two continents, and the value that perspective brings to shaping future curricula.
