Professor Dr Sharifah Suhaila Hj Syed Aznal, MBChB (Glasgow), MMED (Obstetrics & Gynaecology, UKM), and PGCert Med Education (Dundee), is a highly respected Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and currently serves as Dean of the School of Medicine at IMU University in Kuala Lumpur.
A clinician educator with over 25 years experience, her expertise includes clinical learning, workplace-based assessment (WPBA), and curriculum design and evaluation, with special clinical interest in urogynaecology.
Prof Sulaiha is actively engaged in leading educational reforms at IMU University. She has spearheaded the 2021 competency-based curriculum revision, integrating mastery-based skills, interdisciplinary nmodules, and industry collaborations, including anchor partnerships across healthcare, nutrition, business, and One Health initiatives.
She also champions peer learning and student-led innovations, such as the alumni coaching programme and peer tutoring system.
As a conference facilitator and contributor, Prof Sulaiha has been invloved in numberous international forums including Ottawa, APMEC Singaopre, IMEC Malaysia, AMEA Hong Kong, MEC Colombo, and MEC Japan.
She has led major institutional projects—including development of WPBA tools and enhanced professional portfolio development programmes for IMU University's medical school.
In public life, she is a Council Member of the Malaysian Medical COuncil representing IMU University from 2023 to 2026. Together as a clinician, educator, and academic leader, Prof Sharifah Sulaiha Syed Aznal is committed to shaping future physicians who are globally competent, interllectually curious, socially responsible, and prepared for evolving healthcare challenges.
