Conference Information

Please note that this is a non-scientific presentation, allowing participants who may not have cited or published any papers to join the conference. We welcome everyone and are here to support you, regardless of whether your findings are scientifically driven or not. You can present an abstract based on your own interests of study or areas of expertise. It could be a first-hand abstract prepared specifically for this conference to share your experiences and data gathering. – add on good opportunities for final year students to present their paper through oral or poster.
 

Judges

Professor Er Hui Meng
Professor Er Hui Meng is the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education at the IMU University, Malaysia. She is also the Director of IMU Centre for Education which is responsible for faculty development, student evaluation of teaching and learning, and education research. She leads the team comprising of faculty and professional staff with a broad range of experiences and expertise in education and technology to support teaching innovations that contribute to improvement in student experience and performance. She also oversees the strategic management of learning resources which include E-learning, library, medical museum, laboratories as well as clinical skills and simulation learning. She played a significant role in the development of pharmacy and health sciences programmes at IMU, as well as the establishment of institutional policies and guidelines for teaching, learning and assessment. She promotes these best practices through faculty training workshops at the IMU and at national and international conferences. Her other major contributions include the accreditation of BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme by the UK Royal Society of Chemistry (2014), IMU’s Certification of Self-Accreditation status by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) (2017) and IMU’s achievement in receiving the AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) ASPIRE Certificate of Merit in Faculty Development (2022).

Prof Ian Martin Symonds
Professor Symonds is the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic  and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the IMU University, Malaysia. He qualified in Medicine at Nottingham Medical School in 1983 and trained in general medicine and obstetrics and gynacology in the UK. He completed specialist training in Obstetrics in 1997 and a Doctor of Medicine research higher degree in 1995. Prior to moving to IMU, he held the positions of Chair of Reproductive Medicine in Newcastle NSW in 2004 and Head of School in 2011 before moving to South Australia as Dean and Head of School of Medicine, Adelaide University from 2015 to 2020. He joined IMU in 2021 as the Dean of Medicine.

Professor Symonds has been a chief investigator on studies on the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, genetics of pre-eclampsia, infrared spectroscopic analysis of cervical smears, detection of ovarian cancer using Tc-99 labelled monoclonal antibody, innate immunity to Chlamydia, the psychosocial aspects of maternal age, genetics of endometrial cancer, growth restriction and preterm labour, attachment disorders, cervical screening, fetal ECG ST-Analysis and induction of labour. He has published more than 80 peer review papers and is the immediate past editor of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Prof Symonds has led several major curriculum change processes and innovations in both national and local settings and played an active role in research projects on inter-professional learning, widening access to medical school, student selection, work place based assessment and the use of e-portfolios in medical education. He has published a number of undergraduate textbooks and has a master’s degree in clinical education. He has held a number of national leadership roles including the presidency of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand and Vice President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is the current Dean of Education at the College.

Dr Sharmini Paramalingam
Dr Sharmini is a medical doctor with background experience as a general surgeon, lecturer, occupational health doctor and refugee physician. Currently she is a general practitioner, with a keen interest in a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. She is also a yoga instructor and a fashion model. Dr Sharmini is a vibrant member of IMU alumni community and has dedicated her time to IMU's Community Engagement Alumni Chapter.
 


Submission Categories

1. Entrepreneurship & Leadership Management
We are inviting papers that utilise theories of practice to study various aspects of entrepreneurship. You have the option to explore the latest leadership practices, obstacles, and future trends related to business and entrepreneurship in the context of One Health.

2. Teaching and Learning
All about collaborating, sharing effective practices, and exploring education for all. We would love to hear about your leadership successes, challenges, and future plans. Below are some suggested areas:

  • Student voice
  • Co-creation of the curriculum
  • Changing practices during the pandemic
  • Wellbeing and mental health
  • Designing inclusive learning
  • Decolonising the curriculum
  • Impact of one health through collaboration
  • AI Robotics in health care teaching & learning

Note: While the programme committee welcomes submissions related to the suggested areas, we welcome other ideas. If you have any other ideas that you'd like to share, please submit your abstract, and we will contact you.


3. Community Engagement
We are seeking to gain insights into the latest developments, emerging trends, and innovative practices in social, civic, and community engagement. We are interested in learning about your experiences as a leader, including your accomplishments, challenges, and plans. The following areas are suggested for submission.

  • Current issues in community engagement related to One Health
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Submissions related to One Health:
    • SGD's 3: Good Health and Well-being
    • SGD's 4: Quality Education
    • SGD's 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
    • SGD's 13: Climate Action
    • SGD's 15: Life on Land
    • etc

How to Submit the Abstract?
  • Step 1: Register for the event via our online registration.
  • Step 2: Refer to the guidelines for more information and the requirement details. 
    • For submission and presentation guidelines, refer to Appendix A.
    • For sample of oral or poster abstract for initial submission, refer to Appendix A1.
    • For poster presentation guidelines, refer to Appendix B.
    • For oral presentation guidelines, refer to Appendix C.
  • Step 3: Prepare abstract with the details below. No Reference, figures or tables are to be submitted.:

Abstract Selection and Presentation
The committee will review all submission abstracts. Notification regarding abstract acceptances and scheduling will be sent via email to the submitting author. Please note, if your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, the presenting author will be permitted a maximum of 1 oral presentation in the programme.
