IMU Medical Students Shine at an International Medical Open Chess Tournament 2019

23 Nov 2019

2 November – Eight active members of IMU Board Games Club who are medical students at the University, took part in a chess tournament held by Perdana University which had a total of 85 participants. The competition was a great opportunity for them to showcase all their skills and talents, throughout the seven rounds of intense games. The Perdana University International Medical Chess Tournament 2019 organising team collaborated with Palliative Care for SMA Fighters Awareness in organising this event and this gave our players the opportunity to play with both disabled players (OKU) and others. During the games, they not only enjoyed the games but also shown the true essence of sportsmanship by helping and showing patience for the OKU players.

All the IMU players did well at the competition but two that stood out were Daryl Wong Cheng Lim and Keshvien Inbashekaran who were in the top three of the Medical Student Special Category Award.

Name Medical Student and Staff Special Category Prize Overall Ranking
Daryl Wong Cheng Lim Second 9th
Keshvien Inbashekaran Third 26th

Both of them are from the IMU Board Games Club and we hope that their impressive performance will motivate more people to join the club so that they can hone their skills.

Words of Appreciation
We would also like to express our wholehearted appreciation to our dearest Club Advisor, Dr Arun Kumar and Assistant Manager of Student Services Hub, Ali Kader for their support and encouragement. Special thanks to President of IMU Board Games Club 19/20, Joanna Wong Mei Jye for leading and managing the team and also all the team members. Our players had given their very best and enjoyed the games.

Congratulations to the students on their achievement!
