1 August 2021 – The International Medical University (IMU) has appointed YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang as the Chancellor and YBhg Datin Paduka Setia Dato’ Dr Aini Ideris as the Pro Chancellor of the University effective March 2021. This is a very exciting and important moment for the University as they mark a crucial milestone for IMU by bringing with them an impressive array of experiences and skills.
Tan Sri Dato’ Yahya has served the IMU since 1996, initially as a member on the Board of Governors and later as Pro-Chancellor from 2018-20. In 2012, Tan Sri Dato’ Yahya was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Medicine from the International Medical University (IMU) in recognition of his contributions to the healthcare arena. He has an illustrious career as an eminent cardiothoracic surgeon and continues to serve as an Honorary Consultant for Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Visiting Consultant Surgeon for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Adjunct Professor of the Medical Faculty of Universiti Teknologi MARA, and Chairman of the Expert Panel of Heart and Lung Transplant of the National Transplant Registry. Dr Yahya is also the founder and currently Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur. Pro-Chancellor, Datin Paduka Setia Dato’ Dr Aini Ideris, a renowned scientist in Avian Medicine, has also been a member of the International Medical University (IMU)’s Board of Governors since 2012. Dato’ Aini has a wealth of experience in administration as well as an educator. She served as the 8th Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (2016-20), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) (2008-13), Chairman of Malaysian Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Committee (Academic and International) (2012-13), Dean, School of Graduate Studies (2001-08), and Deputy Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UPM (1992-2001). Dato’ Aini is actively involved in many committees at the national and international levels, as Council member, Chairperson or Executive Committee member.
