IMU Celebrates Another Milestone Convocation for Class of 2022 in Conjunction with its 30th Anniversary

30 Jun 2022

The leading medical education institution celebrates the success of 269 graduands, including those graduating from degrees conferred for the very first time in its history.

Kuala Lumpur, 25 June 2022 – IMU today very proudly welcomed to the stage its Class of 2022 postgraduate and undergraduate graduands in various health care programmes to celebrate their success and the beginning of a new adventure as they enter their next phase in life as healthcare practitioners.

Held at IMU’s Bukit Jalil Campus, the ceremony was presided over by IMU’s Pro-Chancellor YBhg Academician Datin Paduka Setia Dato’ Dr Aini Ideris and Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Aziz Baba, witnessed by members of the Board of Governors, Senate, faculty members, invited guests, graduands and their family and friends. This year’s ceremony carried even more significance as it coincides with IMU’s 30th Anniversary. The anniversary theme, “Nurturing Leaders Today”, aptly describes the momentous ceremony that puts the spotlight on IMU’s new generation of healthcare graduates who are set to embark on an exciting journey as they make a name for themselves as future leaders in their respective industries. It was also the very first time where the institution conferred degrees from Master of Science Acupuncture, Postgraduate Diploma for Endodontics, Postgraduate Diploma for Prosthodontics, and Postgraduate Certificate in Health Informatics and Analytics.

In her speech to the graduates, the Pro-Chancellor encouraged graduands to let the IMU’s principles of TRUST guide them. “Be Trustworthy and stand for integrity, be Responsive to the community’s needs, be United towards a common goal, be committed to Service and stay Tenacious in the pursuit of excellence.” As they enter the workforce, she urged them to help the public navigate wariness, dispel myths and assuage fears in order to rebuild the public’s trust in the healthcare sector. “If we all do our part, if we all embody the oath that we make at the start of our journey – to always serve the community – we can in all our different roles make a difference.”

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Aziz Baba then spoke about the efforts IMU has taken to nurture healthcare professionals who are future-ready by ensuring that students were equipped with digital knowledge. “We recently launched the first Digital Health degree in Malaysia that integrates Information & Communication Technology, Data Analytics and Healthcare, and will welcome its first intake in July 2022. This initiative opens up new opportunities for the next generation of students,” he said.

He also advised new graduates to be mindful of their mental health. “Take care of yourselves, so that you can take care of the community better,” he said as he reminded them to reach out to others if they were overwhelmed.

The convocation ceremony was broadcasted live for the benefit of families and friends abroad to join the ceremony live. The event ended at 2pm with graduands and their families and friends further celebrating their achievements.
