Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified. Not all people will have the same symptoms as it affects different people in different ways. As we strive to keep safe and welcome you back on campus, we would like for you to go through what the New Normal at IMU will be like and how you can play a part in keeping your campus, family, friends and communities safe from this pandemic.

Please familiarise yourself with the IMU Group’s Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for the New Normal. These SOPs will be updated from time to time.

Health and Safety Guidelines

The following safety guidelines and SOPs have been put in place by the University in which all students and staff alike are responsible to practise and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our community together. As mandatory security screening (MySejahtera Check-in (only fully vaccinated persons who are low risk / casual contact are allowed entry), temperature check and facial recognition) will be done before you enter the IMU buildings, please allocate sufficient time (at least 30 mins) before your class starts, in view of a queue.

Part 1 – Entering IMU Buildings or Healthcare Services

As we adapt to the New Normal, please be informed on the safety guidelines by the University in this 4 part series. As mandatory screening (temperature check and online registration) will be done before you enter the IMU buildings or healthcare services, please allocate sufficient time (at least 30 mins) before your class / appointment, in view of a queue.

These SOPs will be revised from time to time to align with the Ministry of Higher Education’s guidelines.

Part 2 – Maintaining Personal Hygiene

Maintaining good personal hygiene is essential in this New Normal. Remember, one of the key preventative measure during this pandemic is to wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser frequently. Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not cleaned. It is also important to know how to wear, remove and dispose a mask properly.

Part 3 – Physical / Social Distancing

Prevention is better than cure. Maintaining a physical distance of at least 1-2 metres from other people may be effective at reducing transmission of both droplets and airborne spread of communicable disease.

Part 4 – Disinfecting Your Workstation / Workspace

It is important for all of us to play our part to maintain a safe and conducive environment on campus/office. While overall cleaning and disinfection of the premise and high touch point areas have increased, we need to be responsible for our workspace/areas used. Cleaning before and after use of the space will help prevent the spread of communicable diseases. So let’s all do our part!

3C’s and 3W’s Guidelines

To reinforce the above, Ministry of Health Malaysia has also shared the 3C’s and 3W’s guideline as below:

  1. 3C – Practise physical distancing, and AVOID:
    • CROWDED Place
    • CONFINED Space
    • CLOSE Conversation
  2. 3W – Maintain good personal hygiene and FREQUENTLY:
    • WASH hands with soap and water,
    • WEAR face mask especially in public places or when encountering people who are having fever and flu,
    • WARN – practise caution by avoiding handshakes, practice cough and sneeze etiquette, stay at home and seek medical treatment if you are not well

… and remember! Do not touch your face – eyes, nose, mouth if your hands are not cleaned or sanitised.

Community Engagement Guidelines

As COVID-19 continues to spread in an unpredictable manner throughout the world, Malaysia is also not spared. In order to flatten the curve and bring the COVID-19 under control, we as a nation would need everyone to still comply to the advisories and guidelines, playing a role as frontliners to curb the spread of COVID-19. In this context, community engagement serves to address and prevent health and other social inequities which is standing out more prominently during the pandemic.

This guide aims to support IMU teams involved in community engagement work as well as those who continue to engage communities in various ways. It provides general guidance on community engagement during this COVID-19 pandemic situation and in the post-MCO period in the months ahead, including how to continue to support communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications.

Covid-19 Updates

23 Sep 2021 - Announcement on Reopening of IMU Campuses

In efforts to create a safe community within Higher Learning Institutions, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has announced on 14 September 2021 that ONLY students and staff who are fully vaccinated and have fulfilled the period of effectiveness after vaccination are allowed to enter the campus effective 15 October 2021 onwards. [News Reference]

 

As we prepare to welcome you back on campus starting 15 October 2021, the University has put in place a set of health and safety SOPs. Please stay connected with the University for the latest updates.

 

Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) systems have also been procured and are being installed in our ventilation system in phases. Designed with a high safety margin of 99% disinfection levels, this will significantly improve air quality within the campuses. As we continue to prioritise a healthy and safe learning environment, it is equally important that you continue to safeguard yourself and your friends / colleagues by practising the IMU Groups’ SOPs while on campus and within the community.

Let’s all do our part to curb the spread of Covid-19 in order to keep your loved ones and ourselves safe and healthy. Hence, it is important that everyone continues to be vigilant and practise the following:-

  • Stay at home – please minimise your movement during this period and adhere to the government’s SOPs.
  • Wear face mask – please ensure you wear a face mask properly when you are in campus or out in public areas
  • Good hand hygiene – wash your hands with soap and water (20 seconds) or use hand sanitisers regularly. Do not touch your face (eyes/nose/mouth) if you have not cleaned or sanitised your hands.
  • Physical distancing – keep at least 1 metre from other people. Avoid crowded or confined areas and close conversations
  • Good ventilation – ensure the room that you are in is well ventilated
  • Respiratory etiquette – cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and to immediately discard it in the bin and wash / sanitise your hands
  • If you are unwell or have flu-like symptoms – fever, cough, sore throat, etc, please seek medical treatment, wear a mask and stay at home! Please update your Programme Director (for students) / Head of Department (for staff) and rest and recover.
  • If you are identified as a positive Covid-19 patient OR a close contact, please immediately self-isolate and inform your Dean/Associate Dean/ Programme Director/Mentor (for students) or Head of Department (for staff) for further actions.

27 Jun 2021 - Announcement on Nationwide Total Lockdown extended from 29 June 2021 until further notice

ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL IMU STUDENTS & STAFF
(27 June 2021)

 

As the nation continues to record over 5,000 of new Covid-19 cases on a daily basis, the Malaysian government has announced that the Nationwide Total Lockdown will continue, as part of Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan, until the threshold value is less than 4,000 Covid-19 cases a day. [News Reference]

 

During this period, all sectors are not allowed to operate except 17 essential economic and service sectors announced by the National Security Council / Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN). Should there be any changes to the SOPs authorised by MKN or the relevant Ministries, the University will make the necessary modifications and update you accordingly.

 

Based on the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE)’s SOPs dated 31 May 2021 for Higher Education Institutions, please be informed that all IMU Campuses will continue to be physically closed during this period or until further updates from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) / MKN and governing authorities. As such, please note on the followings:

  • Please be informed that all online Teaching and Learning activities will continue as per schedule. There are no changes unless updated by your respective Schools. Face-to-Face teaching and learning activities will be suspended temporarily.
  • For Students:
    • Please refer to your respective Schools for the latest updates. You may also refer to the Student Portal or Student Services Hub for more information.
    • Should you have any concerns pertaining to your academic matters, please reach out to your respective School’s Programme Director.
  • For Staff: Please refer to your Head of Departments on work arrangements. All departments and personnel must be contactable via online during operational hours.
  • Essential operations which are in compliance with the Total Lockdown directives are ongoing and you are to observe strict SOPs at all times.
  • Interstate and inter-district travels are still not allowed.
    • Travels for your Covid-19 vaccination is permitted. Please adhere to the SOPs by MKN.
    • Staff who are required to be on campus for essential operations are to ensure you obtain the MOHE Letter of Authorisation (effective 29 June 2021) from your HOD to travel to your respective work locations. 
  • It is also important that you have downloaded the MySejahtera app and have registered for your Covid-19 vaccination.

Further to the latest announcement by the Malaysian Government on 28 May 2021, with the all-time high number of Covid-19 cases reaching 8-9,000+, please be informed that the whole country is placed under a Nationwide Total Lockdown from 1 to 14 June 2021.

During this period, all sectors are not allowed to operate except essential economic and service sectors which will be listed / announced by the National Security Council / Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN). Based on the briefing by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on 29 May 2021, please be informed that all IMU Campuses will be physically closed during this period or until further updates from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) / MKN and governing authorities. As such, please note on the followings:

11 May 2021 - Announcement on Nationwide MCO from 12 May - 7 June 2021

ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL IMU STUDENTS & STAFF
(12 May 2021)

 

Further to the latest announcement by the Malaysian Government on 10 May 2021, in order to curb the high numbers of Covid-19 cases, please be informed that the whole country is placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO 3.0) from 12 May to 7 June 2021.

In accordance MCO 3.0 SOPs, and in line with the Ministry of Higher Education’s (MOHE), please be informed that all educational institutions are to be physically closed and to conduct online Teaching and Learning. However, a few exceptions have been made by the governing authorities to allow students with specific Teaching and Learning needs to return to campus based on strict SOPs.

  • For Students: Please refer to your respective Schools for the latest updates. You may also refer to the Student Portal or Student Services Hub for more information.
  • For Staff: Please refer to your Head of Departments on work arrangements
  • Please be informed that all online Teaching and Learning will continue as per schedule. There are no changes unless updated by your respective Schools.

  • Operations which are in compliance with MCO directives are ongoing and you are to observe strict SOPs at all times.

  • – Should an employee require to travel for work purposes, an official IMU letter of authorisation from the employer is required.
  • – Under the MKN / MOHE Guidelines, students are allowed to cross state / district for face-to-face (F2F) clinical or skill-based training or those under the mentioned categories. Therefore, students identified for face-to-face (F2F) clinical or skill-based training by your respective schools, you are required to bring along the latest official IMU letter of authorisation, timetable and your Student ID when you travel to campus.
  • It is also important that you have downloaded the MySejahtera app to “check-in” and remember to register for your Covid-19 vaccination.

20 Nov 2020 - Announcement of CMCO lifted for Four States - Kedah, Malacca, Johor and Terengganu

ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL IMU STUDENTS & STAFF
(20 Nov 2020)

Further to the latest announcement by the Malaysian Government on 20 November 2020, the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) for the following four (4) states will be lifted on 21 November 2020: Kedah, Malacca, Johor and Terengganu; with the exception of Kulim (Kedah) and Kota Tinggi and Mersing (Johor).

However, States currently under the CMCO will continue accordingly until 6 December 2020. This includes Kelantan which will undergo CMCO starting 21 November 2020 for two weeks.

Under these circumstances, please be informed that:

  • The IMU Clinical Campus in Batu Pahat and Kluang will reopen its campuses and face-to-face teaching and learning activities will resume accordingly on 22 November 2020.
  • The International Medical University (IMU) – Bukit Jalil Campus and Seremban Clinical Campus will continue to remain closed. During this period, please be informed that online Teaching and Learning will continue as per timetable.

In the efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, please take note on the following advisories by the Malaysian Government:

  1. The Conditional Movement Control Order for the states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya has been extended for two (2) weeks until 9 November 2020 (Monday)
  2. The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in its advisory dated 26 October 2020 also requires all higher education institutions in “red zone districts” to be closed

 

Under these circumstances, please be informed that:

  • The International Medical University (IMU) – Bukit Jalil Campus (due to CMCO) and Seremban’s Clinical Campus (due to red zone district) will be closed for face-to-face teaching and learning activities. 12 Oct 2020 - Announcement of CMCO for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya

Further the Press Conference by YB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, Senior Minister of Defence, Ministry of Defence on 12 October 2020 (Monday), the government will be enforcing a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) effective from 14-27 October 2020 (2 weeks) for the states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Based on the above, please be informed:

  • All universities in the CMCO area including IMU – Bukit Jalil Campus will be closed, and staff and students will not be allowed on campus for the entire duration of the CMCO
  • However online Teaching and Learning activities will continue as per timetable for Bukit Jalil campus
  • For all Clinical Campuses outside the CMCO area, they will continue to operate as normal
  • F&B Outlets: Chill-out Café / Mamak will open from 7am – 6pm for takeaway during this period.

 

The MKN restrictions under CMCO will include the following:

  • Inter-district travels are prohibited. However, should an employee require to travel for work purposes, a work permit or an official letter of authorisation from the employer is required
  • Only 2 persons from each household is permitted to go out to buy food and other essentials
  • All schools, kindergartens, nurseries, higher education institutions, vocational institutions, tahfiz (religious) centres, are to remain closed during this period
  • Masjids and places of worship (eg. churches, temples, etc) are also to be closed
  • Tourism, recreational, leisure, entertainment and cultural activities including weddings are not allowed
  • However, all economic activities in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are allowed to operate as usual.

RED ZONE ADVISORY

All staff and students who are currently residing in the RED ZONE areas under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will not be permitted to leave their areas for the duration of the CMCO. Please check the duration of CMCO for your respective zone.

If you are residing in a RED ZONE under CMCO/ EMCO / TEMCO, you are required to update us as below for further advice to minimise disruption to your Teaching and Learning / Work:

Health and Safety

What is the screening process like for anyone entering campus?

  • All students, staff and visitors will be screened before entering the campus buildings.
  • Only fully vaccinated persons who are low risk or casual contact will be allowed entry. Please show your MySejahtera app to the security guard for verification.
  • You will need to “check-in” with your MySejahtera app upon entry and “check-out” when leaving the building.
  • Facial Recognition / Temperature check. Anyone above 37.5 degree Celsius will not be allowed on campus. If you are detected with a temperature, you will be requested to seek medical attention and will not be permitted entry.
  • Sanitise your hands before entering the building. Hand sanitisers are provided.
  • Please always wear your mask whilst on campus grounds.

Am I required to wear a mask?

Yes. You are required to wear your mask properly at all times whilst on campus grounds. Double masking is encouraged. Do not wear you mask under your nose or chin.

Are hand sanitisers readily available?

Yes.  Hand sanitisers are placed at the entry points of facilities including lifts and lecture halls.

Why do I need to practise physical distancing?

Physical distancing means keeping a safe space between yourself and others. A recommended distance of 1 metre or more (2 arms-length) is encouraged to reduce and slow the spread of Covid-19.

Is it safe to eat at the Pandan Serai Cafeteria / Mamak / Chill Out Area?

  • Strict SOPs must be adhered at these eating outlets.
  • Currently only fully vaccinated people are allowed to “dine-in”.
  • Physical distancing must be maintained during purchase of food and beverages and eating areas. Only one person is allowed per small table or as indicated for larger tables.
  • You are to remove your eating utensils after consuming your food at the designated areas.

Financial Support System

The months of the prolonged movement control orders and lockdowns has created a lot of uncertainties and financial difficulties. While our priority is to ensure our students receive the required Teaching and Learning to complete their studies and graduate, we are also mindful of the financial impact this volatile situation may have on families. Financial support systems are being put in place by the University to help alleviate any hardship which students and their parents may face.

Can I pay my fees by instalment?

Yes. The University has introduced an instalment scheme with immediate effect until December 2021.

This instalment scheme is for full-time students as below:

FIS        : 2 instalments (per semester)

UG       : 2-4 instalments (per semester)

PG        : 2-4 instalments (per semester)

Can I pay my fees with credit card?

Yes. Credit cards will be accepted as a mode of payment for all IMU programmes and cohorts with immediate effect.

My family is currently facing financial difficulties due to the Covid-19 and MCO situation. How can IMU help me continue my studies?

IMU has introduced two assistance funds to help students adversely affected financially by the Covid-19 situation to cope and mitigate around this situation.

The IMU Covid-19 Hardship Assistance Fund (ICHAF) with total funds amounting to RM3 million has been introduced by the University to assist students’ whose ability to complete his/her studies due to their families facing severe financial hardship due to the Covid-19 situation.

The IMU Covid-19 Welfare Assistance Fund (ICWAF) with total funds amounting to RM2 million has been introduced to support students who have been adversely affected financially by the Covid-19 situation for them to complete their studies and graduate accordingly. This fund supports needs that are beyond tuition fees, extending into day to day welfare support.

Financial aids such as PTPTN, JPA, MARA, Kuok Foundation and others are still available by the respective authorities.

As for year 2021, all IMU scholarships applications have been closed. However, the scholarships application will reopen for 2022 Undergraduate intakes.

Student Welfare and Facilities

In accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education’s (MoHE) latest guidelines, please be informed that only fully vaccinated students and staff will be allowed to return to campus starting 15 October 2021.

Will there be a Convocation ceremony?

Arrangements will be made for the collection of physical copies of your degrees. However, the convocation will be postponed until further notice.

Can I return to campus to use the library?

Currently, the use of the library is only by appointment.

Starting 15 October 2021, the library will be opened to fully vaccinated students and staff are allowed entry and will be based on seating capacity.

Starting 15 October 2021, the Student’s Lounge and facilities will be opened only for fully vaccinated students to use.

Am I allowed to organise events on campus?

All events on campus are canceled until further notice.

Accommodation

Storage

The storage space is made available for 6 months starting June 2020. This facility is free for those renting the IMU Hostel or renting room/unit privately. Do not store valuable or perishable items.  For security reasons, you may only access the storage space with a designated IMU staff. Please make an appointment before any visit.

International Students

The Malaysian Immigration Department has issued a new directive and has allowed the existing international students to return to Malaysia to continue their studies.

Students who are allowed to enter must comply with the requirements of complete vaccination, screening test procedures upon arrival and quarantine in Malaysia as required by the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Malaysia to curb the spread of new variants of Covid-19 in the country. For further assistance or information on your international travels and your student visa, please contact the IMU Student Visa Office at visa@imu.edu.my.

Returning to Malaysia

As per the recent announcement by EMGS dated 21 September 2021, the Immigration Department of Malaysia has ended the temporary restrictions imposed to travellers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom. However, the re-entry of citizens from these countries is allowed on a case-by-case basis.

Prior to travelling to Malaysia, you will need to apply for the Travel Authorisation at the EMGS website. Please click HERE to apply.

Please be informed that the Travel Authorisation is valid for 3 months. For those whose Travel Authorisation has expired, please submit a new application at the EMGS website.

Continuing your Teaching & Learning (TnL) Online

Should you decide not to defer your semester, while remaining in your home country, you may continue accessing your TnL via the e-learn portal. Please discuss with your programme director should you not be able to attend compulsory classes due to the time difference.

Student Visa

Cancellation of Student Pass (completion of programme) – One of the immigration regulations is to cancel your Student Pass when you complete your studies with us. We understand that you may still encounter issues such as border restrictions in your home country and lack of flights. Therefore, it is important that you seek our advice before making any travel plans. For your information, Student Pass cancellation process takes 14 working days.

Meanwhile, under the Malaysian Immigration law, if you are returning to a country other than your native country, you must provide a copy of your Residence Visa.
