IMU’s Associate Professor elected Chair of ASM-YSN Science Policy and Education Office

A/Prof Leong Chee OnnDecember 2012 – A/Prof Leong Chee Onn of IMU was elected the Chair of the Academy of Science Malaysia Young Scientist Network (ASM-YSN) Science Policy and Education Office. The Office will analyse public issues and focuses on mechanisms for improving Early Scientific Careers, Science-Society Dialogue, Science-Education, and Interdisciplinary Research. The ASM-YSN was established under the provision of the Global Young Academy (GYA) to empower and mobilize outstanding young scientists to come together to address topics of global importance. An Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Department of Life Sciences, A/Prof Leong has conducted multi-year research focused on drug target discovery, novel molecules development through preclinical and clinical trials, and biomarkers development for diagnosis and treatment of refractory breast cancers. He has published extensively in high impact journals, including Nature Cell Biology, Cancer Cell, PNAS, Cancer Research etc. He has received numerous international awards including the FMD Fellowship (USA), ORS Award (UK) and the IBMS President’s Award (UK). He was a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Congratulations to A/Prof Leong Chee Onn.
