Introducing the IMU Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry

21 Sep 2016

Looking to advance your knowledge and skills in implant dentistry? Would like to but cannot afford to take time off the dental practice? The International Medical University (IMU) is now offering a postgraduate diploma in implant dentistry (PGDID) programme which is specially tailored for the working dentist. The programme has a unique learning model which offers flexibility through its outcome-based modular structure delivered through blended learning. It effectively optimises face-to-face sessions and technologically-enhanced learning platforms when students are off-site. The programme scheduling provides the opportunity for the working dentist to undertake campus-based classes and work-based experiential learning at his/her own clinic practice and at the same time receive personalised attention from clinical supervisor and through assigned personal tutors.

As Prof Toh Chooi Gait (IMU Pro Vice-Chancellor of Development and Dean of the School of Dentistry) said when asked to comment on the programme, “The primary objective of the IMU PGDID is to provide dental practitioners the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to plan, treat, and rehabilitate a range of simple to advance partially and fully edentulous patients using dental implants.”

Picture-4 She emphasised that “The training standards have been developed to ensure patient safety and to provide a good standard of care based on current evidence in the field of Implant Dentistry.” For these reasons IMU has ensured that the programme is delivered by highly qualified and experienced full-time and adjunct teaching faculties. Indeed, the IMU PGDID is Malaysia’s FIRST and ONLY approved postgraduate programme in implant dentistry that is approved by the Malaysian Qualifying Agency (MQA) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The PGDID programme is internationally benchmarked with the Diploma of Implant Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Upon completion of the PGDID programme students will also be well-prepared to sit for the diploma exam in implant dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The programme which will commence on 19 October 2016 is now open for application. Make an online application today.
