Putrajaya, 19 December 2018 – State Health Department Negeri Sembilan (Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri – Negeri Sembilan), Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IMU that will see both parties collaborating and exchanging industry knowledge to accelerate the development of new approaches with supporting evidence to better population and person-centred healthcare for the state. Representing MOH was the Director-General of Health Malaysia, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, while IMU was represented by the President of IMU Health, Vice Chancellor and CEO of IMU, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia, Dr Lee Boon Chye and Chairman of International Medical University Group, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman. 
Through the partnership, both State Health Department Negeri Sembilan and IMU will work closely to develop a Health System Approach across three domains – training, service and research – in the hope to elevate the stature and institutional commitments to population health as well as to build future leaders through partnership with communities and across sectors in improving health. Among the objectives of this MoU include: ● Creating training programmes that support the population and person centred healthcare through engagement with real-life service; ● Conducting comparative effectiveness research and patient-centred outcomes research; ● Provide care-delivery models that focus on community-anchored interventions to optimise the health of the patient and populations for which they assume responsibility, and ● Create inter-professional development or team-science approach with inputs and engagements from multiple sectors. With this initiative, IMU hopes to move closer towards its objective of offering patient-centred healthcare and to provide the necessary knowledge for patients and the general population to be stewards of their own health. This collaboration is part of the institution’s oath to serve the community by giving them access to better healthcare. Working with State Health Department Negeri Sembilan offers not just the opportunity to fulfil this dedication but also direct access to the community at the grass-roots level to better understand what is needed at the most basic standards for improved healthcare. IMU is also actively pursuing similar partnerships that will put it right where its expertise is needed – at the heart of the community. 
To fulfil the objectives of this initiative, key deliverables have been agreed upon by both parties. These include establishing committee chairmen and members, appointing the person in charge from IMU and State Health Department Negeri Sembilan, scheduling regular meetings, reviewing of IMU’s MBBS curriculum, conducting research and performing data analysis, identifying resources and providing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training by IMU to State Health Department Negeri Sembilan staff and vice versa. At the same time, a list of proposed activities covering the life-course from infant to elderly care and data analysis have been drafted following the MoU covering the three domains of training, service and research. Both IMU and State Health Department Negeri Sembilan will further streamline the activities to identify the areas that require immediate attention for action to be taken. This collaboration between the State Health Department Negeri Sembilan, MOH which continuously aspires to provide the best healthcare to the population and IMU, a prominent leader from academia in the areas of Education, Healthcare and Research through shared common values, targets and objectives will yield excellent results collectively for the development of the health of the community.
