Open and distance learning (ODL) is a flexible way of pursuing study without the need to attend traditional lectures at university, with all the course materials being delivered online thus making higher education more accessible to working adults like you. This unique Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) in ODL is the most practical choice for working registered nurses as it is specially designed and tailored to meet the needs of registered nurses who wish to upgrade and advance their Diploma in Nursing qualification to a bachelor’s degree level of education for career progression while still remaining in their workplace, without constraints of time or place and without the need of quitting their noble jobs.

This Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) in ODL part-time programme aims to enhance the graduate practitioner with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude required of a professional nurse practitioner in playing a variety of roles within various healthcare settings and community. It recognises the importance of the student as an adult learner who can draw on his/her work experiences, through the reflective learning scenarios and real case-based discussions integrated in the curriculum of this programme.

In addition, this programme is also designed to further strengthen other important skills including decision-making, critical thinking and teamwork as well as self-directed learning. This innovative online education programme is designed to meet the demands of the contemporary nursing profession and addresses the need to prepare nurses for the 21st-century healthcare industry.

In general, the programme covers the aspect of basic medical sciences, behavioural sciences, nursing sciences, clinical practice and research. Some courses within the programme can be considered for credit transfer as working nurses are already equipped with their Diploma in Nursing and working experiences, thus allowing working nurses to complete their degree in part-time mode for 3.5 years after credit exemptions.

This ODL programme has obtained provisional accreditation from Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Malaysian Nursing Board (MNB). It offers two intakes per year, in February and September.
