Top Nutrition Graduates Share Secrets to Their Success in IMU

The graduation ceremony for the International Medical University, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nutrition programme was on 2 November 2019. “We are very proud to witness the graduation of our Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nutrition students. All the students have successfully completed this 3-year programme that was designed based on the requirements of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) as well as the current and future market needs. The modular structure of this programme allows students to understand the fundamentals in nutrition during their early semesters and move towards the application in nutrition in the later semesters. Students are prepared by the programme to be able to perform as an entry level nutritionist upon graduation. The practicum module has prepared graduates with workplace experiences during their attachment at health clinics as well as the well-known food or health related industries. We commend our graduates and we are confident that they will shine in their future undertakings” shared the Programme Director of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nutrition programme, Tan Seok Shin.

The winner of the Tun Zahir Merit Award and Best Nutrition Student Award from BSc (Hons) in Nutrition, Tan Zuanne said: “I was very surprised and grateful when I received the news from the Programme Director that I am the recipient of the Tun Zahir Merit Award and Best Nutrition Student Award. I am a determined and reliable person with a mindset of seeing any form of life experience as an opportunity to develop and improve myself. The BSc (Hons) in Nutrition programme has provided various platforms for me to be involved in extracurricular activities including management of events and community projects, which has contributed greatly in developing and improving my teamwork, leadership, organisational and problem solving skills.” “In addition, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend to the Winter Course 2019 at the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogjakarta for 2 weeks, along with 57 students from different health professions and countries. This once in a lifetime memorable experience is sponsored by IMU and UGM. I would like to express million thanks to my family for supporting my studies at IMU. Not forgetting my lecturers for guiding me throughout my study – a very special thank you to them. I find the lecturers from BSc (Hons) in Nutrition programme very knowledgeable, approachable and willing to clarify our queries. They will guide us to the right direction when we are lost. I was very thankful for everything IMU has given to me, which had helped me grow a lot in this journey. This definitely will help me to be more prepared for my future career challenges.”

Tan Mun Yee Book Prize for Leadership in Nutrition

The winner of the Best Leadership Award from the programme, Tan Mun Yee reflected, “I am very grateful to the BSc (Hons) in Nutrition programme for granting me the opportunities and platforms to showcase my leadership skills via the various activities available, either curriculum related activities or those activities beyond the curriculum, during my studies at IMU. All the activities have helped me in growing into a better me. The knowledge and skills learnt from IMU have prepared me to be a job ready graduate.” “I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to complete my internship in BiO-LiFE (M) Sdn Bhd, playing the role as the nutritionist cum customer health advisor. During my placement, I put together knowledge and skills gained during my studies to plan and implement a staff wellness project focusing on prevention of cardiovascular diseases. This internship not only provides a good opportunity for me to experience the real work setting, it also helped me grow as a person. I discovered my strengths and the joy in working with others. IMU BSc (Hons) in Nutrition curriculum emphasises on knowledge as well as soft skills development. Through the internship training, I was more prepared to take on the roles as a corporate nutritionist.”

The winner of the Best Nutrition Student Award and Best Leadership Award 2019 were sponsored by Nestle (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. The award is given yearly to graduates in recognition of their outstanding performance as well as their ability in demonstrating their leadership skills under the programme during their studies at IMU. The winner was awarded with a certificate and also a cash prize of RM1000 each.
