Career Planning and Development Information via Career Development Unit Webpage

The Career Development Unit (CDU) at the International Medical University (IMU) is embarking on another journey after its set up last year on July 6 2017. The unit had launched their official webpage on Friday, 17 August 2018. The launch was graced with the attendance of some notable individuals such as, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba, (President, IMU Health and Vice Chancellor & CEO, IMU Education), Prof Peter Pook, (Deputy Vice-Chancellor of IMU) and Prof Patricia Lim (Associate Dean, Industry Partnerships). The official launching started at 10:30 a.m. when all invited guests arrived. During this launching, CDU collaborated with the Alumni Relation Office (ARO) by presenting slides shows where they showcased their respective units’ success stories and future events. The ceremony was then officiated by Prof Abdul Aziz Baba and was witnessed by IMU students, Student Ambassadors, as well as IMU staff. Commenting on the event, Prof Patricia Lim said, “Today is an historic moment for us at IMU’s Career Development Unit. We are launching the CDU’s webpage to create awareness of the existence of this Unit. Most importantly, this Unit was created to provide services to our students to help develop their readiness for the job market.”

Two of IMU alumni, Aaron Ang Aun Yuan and Archana Divi Chandra Mohan were there to share their experiences and on career-related matters. The crowds were amazed by their achievements and experience that they shared. Tips and insights were exchanged and many who were present mentioned that it was very productive and fruitful.

Archana Divi, who graduated with a Psychology degree in 2013 shared her experience by reflecting to her past experience as an IMU Student Ambassador. “So, when I was invited to become the speaker for the Alumni Sharing slot, I felt like it was a good opportunity for me to share my journey because IMU has contributed a lot to my self-development and I’ve undergone many ups and downs when it comes to career and working experience and I wanted to share that” Archana also emphasized how IMU had taught her to be a professional and how the value of ethics is instilled throughout her three years. Now working at the Student Services Hub, IMU Bukit Jalil campus – Archana is managing the students’ development programmes where she conducts various trainings and workshops. She is more than happy to be back at IMU as she felt like it is the time for her to give back and contribute to the university. For Aaron Ang, he has always loved the idea of coming back to share and inspire the others, especially the current students. No stranger in the F and B industry, Aaron, who graduated with a Nutrition & Dietetics programme, is now managing Medifoods, the healthy café on the fourth floor of the IMU Bukit Jalil campus. “Anyone I talk to now could be my future colleague or business partner. I want to inspire others to be successful in their future undertakings. I want to share my experience – it might inspire them”. Aaron credited IMU for the professionalism ethics he learned. “It has made a huge impact in my career”. Now focusing on business development of the company, Aaron is creating a systemic business plan for new franchises. His future plan is to develop Medifoods into a well-known healthy F and B community in Malaysia and possibly the neighbouring countries as well.

The launching was a huge success because of the amazing collaboration between the ARO and the CDU”, said Mrs Phoong Tan Keat Hoon, IMU counsellor and one of the attendees.

Career Development Unit 
Having a meaningful job can transform a person’s life. With this in mind, the International Medical University under the Industry Partnerships Office has established a Career Development Unit (CDU), a unit which will play an integral role in supporting information and providing assistance to students and alumni who are interested in career planning and development. The support and assistance provided will equip them with access to relevant information and resources for the appropriate choices on their training, education and employment. CDU is dedicated to assisting students in their career development, career research and further to advise them on their career opportunities.
