02 Jul 2015

Final year International Medical University dentistry student, David Gu Jian Yee has done the University proud. He has won the FIRST PRIZE and also the BEST PRESENTER AWARD at the 7th Annual 3M ESPE- Malaysian Association for Prosthodontics Fixed Prosthodontics Case Presentation Competition. The prizes for the competition included a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, certificate and a Challenge Trophy sponsored by the Malaysian Association for Prosthodontics. This competition is an annual event held at national level where all final year dental students from public and private dental schools in Malaysia were invited to participate. Each university is eligible to select one student to represent the university. In total, four public and three private dental schools in Malaysia participated in the competition this year.

The clinical case presented by David during the competition was on a case to restore the aesthetics of the patient’s heavily filled front teeth with full ceramic crowns and ceramic veneers. This case was supervised by Prof Seow Liang Lin and co-supervised by Dr Rohit Pandurangappa.

The competition encompassed a 1,500 words report of the case and a Power Point Presentation on the day of the competition. The judges for this Competition (all of whom were prosthodontic specialists) commented that the knowledge and clinical application of the students for their respective cases were of very high standards and it was a difficult task to select the winner from the competitors. It was heartening to note that the students were able to provide a high standard of care to their patients. In addition to winning the overall first prize, David also received the Best Presenter Award for the competition. Both David and Prof Seow were delighted for this achievement and thankful for the support rendered by the School of Dentistry and Senior Management of IMU; the state of the art facilities at Oral Health Centre have enabled the delivery of the high standard of treatment to the patient.

Congratulations to David!
