Forum Invokes Young People to Look at Opportunities and Challenges Facing Humanity

In celebrating 2022 International Medical University (IMU) Chemistry Professional Day, a national event was organised by IMU Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department in collaboration with Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM), Universiti Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and Malaysia Young Chemists Network. It was held on 3 September 2022. A/P Dr Lee Choy Sin skillfully moderated the event and the Q&A session. The successful event, a forum entitled “Gen-Z Chemists: Our Future”, garnered participants from within Malaysia, Philippines, Kenya and Hungary.

 

The panel of speakers consists of chemists and one budding chemist. The event aimed at invoking young people, especially chemists, to look at the opportunities and challenges facing humanity now. The application of chemistry and science have helped improve human lives and will continue to help solve many world problems, such as climate change, pandemic diseases, and green processes.

 

The forum speakers covered a wide range of interesting topics.

Brando Low Zhen Xuen

Malaysian team delegate who won the Silver Medal at the recent 2022 International Chemistry Olympiad

Spoke on Gen-Z youths and the wonders of pursuing Chemistry.

Low Ngai Yuen

Chemist and Group Chief Merchandise & Marketing Officer for AEON (M)

Spoke on how young women could play their roles and make impactful contributions.
