IMU Squash Closed 2015 : Connecting with SQUASH…

17 Apr 2015

21 March 2015 marked the historical day on which our first ever International Medical University (IMU) Squash Closed was held at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre. This event was the brainchild of the IMU Squash Club 14/15 committee, which aimed to bring the IMU community together through a well-loved sport – SQUASH. I love squash. I was lucky to have the chance to compete in external tournaments. It was an experience of a lifetime, hence I would love to let other students experience the thrill of competing in a tournament as well. – Boon Jing, President of IMU Squash Club 14/15 yewinrayne_refereeforum_weewern It was indeed our honour to have Malaysia No 2 and World No 8 Low Wee Wern to grace this inaugural event. A mini forum with Low Wee Wern revealed some of her personal experiences as a professional squash player as well as her routine practices which kept her at the top of her game at all times. She also gave invaluable tips and advices to all budding players in IMU who are equally eager and passionate about the sport.

Getting BEATEN by an opponent and LOSING to your opponent are two different things. You can be beaten by your opponent without losing to him/her. – Wee Wern, Malaysia Women No 2 & World No 8

It was a great platform for everyone who is interested in squash to experience a squash tournament. Students who have just started learning squash had the opportunity to play too! – Kaylee Gan, participant of IMU Squash Closed

grandprize_luckydraw A series of lucky draws were held and 20 lucky winners received amazing prizes, ranging from Tecnifibre and Harrow squash racquets, squash bags, shoe bags to sports t-shirts from Sharon Wee Squash Pro Academy. It was great to see all participants enjoying their Saturday afternoon in the courts; with some challenging their peers to a squash game, while others cheered their friends on during the match.

I really enjoyed this tournament! Hats off to the organisers, this is one of the tidiest and most well-organised squash tournament I have ever been to. Maybe an IMU Squash Open next… – Zyaad, participant of IMU Squash Closed token_nusmetro

A big thank you to our sponsors, Nusmetro and Squash Racquets Association Malaysia (SRAM) for making this event possible. We are deeply grateful to have Thomas Chan from Nusmetro as the main sponsor of this event. Nusmetro has not only provided funds for the tournament, but also sponsored us a total of 20 Harrow squash racquets. Thomas Chan has always been a great squash enthusiast, giving massive amount of support in the development of squash in this country. IMU Squash Club will definitely continue to strive harder in promoting social squash at university level, as well as nurturing better squash players to represent IMU in the upcoming inter-university games.

Congratulations to all winners of IMU Squash Closed 2015!
