IMU’s Pandan Serai Café Wins Award

17 Oct 2017

The International Medical University’s Pandan Serai Café was awarded the First Runner-up (Category C – Private Food Court at Shopping Malls, Hypermarket or Individual Building) for the National Competition of the BeSS (Bersih, Selamat, Sihat) Award 2017. The award was presented by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Health, YB Dato’ Seri Dr Hilmi bin Haji Yahaya  to the University’s representative, Francis Wen, Director of Human Resources on 10 October 2017. Pitted against five established organisations such as Pacific Junction Food Court, Batu Pahat and TESCO Food Court, Kota Bharu who won the first prize, Pandan Seri Café had shown remarkable improvement in its food handling, cleanliness and providing healthier food choices. Aside from the main criteria for operating a cafeteria, the national competition also required the food operators to undergo a food handlers training programme, ensure safe foods and hygienic food practices, environmental hygiene, promotion of recommended food serving sizes based on individual needs and overall level of the cafeteria and food handlers’ cleanliness. Earlier this year on 11 May 2017, the Pandan Serai Café was awarded the Healthy Cafeteria status by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia. This endeavor is part of the University’s Wellness Programme under the Living the Values initiative to promote wellness and healthy eating. We look forward to more initiatives to come and the participation from the IMU Community to make this a success – and a healthier you.

Congratulations on this achievement!

Pandan Serai Cafe also won first prize under Category C (Private Facilities) for the BeSS (Bersih, Selamat dan Sihat) award at the Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya level of competition.
