Internship Enhances Knowledge and Skills of IMU Pharmaceutical Chemistry Student

21 Aug 2015

Pharmaceutical Chemistry students at International Medical University (IMU) have the opportunity to be exposed to industrial attachment for 8 weeks where they would gain valuable industrial experience and build their professional network, giving these graduates an advantage in their future careers. Students take the opportunity to do the attachment overseas while others do their attachment in Malaysia. This is what one of our final year student, Michelle Too did.

“My internship at Abbott Laboratories was truly a great experience. I was placed in the Abbott Established Pharmaceuticals Division under the Regulatory Affairs Department and was exposed to several processes and procedures, which are vital in any healthcare industry in making safe and effective healthcare products.

048 I acquired knowledge, technical skills and experience in numerous processes that ensure the company’s products comply with the guidelines of the local health authorities. Moreover, I was involved in a few projects where I had to conduct online research for clinical evidence on various natural substances that were to be part of the development of novel health supplements. 044 I believe that, whether you’re working in a laboratory or in an office-based environment, professional attitude and ethical practice are two essential qualities in the working world. I can proudly say my programme has indeed done an excellent job in producing future healthcare professionals who are not only ethical, competent and caring, but also who are able to reach their true potential and capacity. The Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme has certainly prepared me well with the necessary skills to be ready for the workplace, be it in terms of knowledge, professional attitude or soft skills. All in all, my internship at Abbott Laboratories has made me grow personally and professionally. As I embark on my journey into the working world, I hope to do the best I can as the healthcare professional that IMU has shaped me to be.”
