Learning about the Recent Advances in Cardiology

8 September 2019 – A workshop on “Recent Advances in Cardiology” was organised by the Department of Internal Medicine with the Hippocrates Club at IMU Seremban Clinical Campus.

The objectives of this workshop is to:
1. Update and enhance the knowledge and skills of FMS, senior pharmacists and internal medicine specialists in the management of Cardiology problems. 2. Reduce number of referrals to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar, Seremban for uncomplicated cardiac cases.

There were 87 participants at this workshop comprising of a general practitioner, medical officers, some internists and a family physician along with some medical students. The workshop saw speakers who are private cardiologists, fellows from Institut Jantung Negara, and IMU faculty giving participants an insight on the recent advances of various topics such as hypertension, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, hyperlipidaemia etc. There were also case based discussions in the afternoon for four different groups. Besides these activities, the workshop also had a Pharma sponsored lunch symposium on newer management of acute coronary syndrome. Overall, the workshop was a great success with very good feedback from the participants. Our students did an excellent job as volunteers and showed very good leadership qualities at the workshop.
