She attended the event to give support to this charitable initiative and to pick out the winners for the lucky draw. Prizes for the lucky draw include a cruise, television, camera, i-Phone, dining vouchers and twenty autographed books “Telling It Straight” by Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. CharioFare2014 (617)The highlight of the event is the Charity Run which will be held on the morning of 20 September 2014. The run has a total of 4 categories, including a 3km Family Run Category. Flag off is at 7:00 am after a short warm-up exercise. Heavy rain on that day did not prevent the 1,200 runners from running. Each participant received a free run t-shirt and goodie bag along with a coupon for a free breakfast. IMU Cares supported NGOs were also invited to the event to promote and sell handicrafts produced by their patients and residents. The National Cancer Society Malaysia took this opportunity to set up a booth and sell Chinese paintings, Beautiful Gate Foundation sold wire crafts and Dignity for Children promoted their “Empower-A-Child” programme. Besides the run, there was an array of performances, activities, food and drinks available on that day. Among the many events lined-up for the carnival was sale of pre-loved items, stone art painting for adults and children, sale of plants, a relaxing and refreshing massage, sale of vegetables and lots of delicious food and drinks. This year, those who are unable to participate in our Chariofare still have the opportunity to support the four beneficiaries by making a convenient and secure online donation. They donated individually or as a team with a maximum of four members. This has contributed more than RM 5,000 to the total amount raised. IMU contributed RM30,000 to organise this event. The event is managed by a Student Organising Committee comprising primarily of Semester 1 students with IMU staff as advisors. The food and games fun fair is run by both staff and students. Public participation is also important for its success. For the last 3 years, the total amount raised had been in the region between RM100, 000 – RM150,000. The entire proceeds goes to charity. Chariofare typically attracts around 2,500 participants of public, students and staff and their families.
