Second Largest Batch of Alumni Gathering Took Place in East Malaysia

On a cloudy evening of 18 February 2017, the IMU Alumni Relations Office, together with Dr Mei Ling Young, Professor Ong Kok Hai, Dato Kew Siang Tong, Professor Nazimah Idris, Dr Gandhi Solayar and Dr Wong Pei Se met up with 58 alumni in Kuching, Sarawak. The gathering took place in Hilton Kuching. We had alumni from the medicine faculty, dentistry and pharmacy turning up for the event. The largest group was naturally made up of the medical alumni and they were from various specialty ranging from emergency surgery, O&G, pediatrician, ophthalmology to orthopedics. Some senior alumni from the older batches were also present, and they were very happy that we made it all the way to Kuching for the gathering. The session started with a welcome speech by Dr Young, followed by a passionate sharing from Prof Ong about IMU Cares. The breakout session was fruitful as we have received some great feedback and suggestions on how to improve alumni engagement as well as ideas to kick-start a community project in Kuching. After a group photo taking session, the group adjourned to the hotel’s Waterfront Café for a sumptuous buffet dinner. During the dinner, many took the opportunity to have an up close and personal catch up session with their favourite member of staff and many more photo taking session ensued. The dinner ended at about 10pm with many leaving stating that they are on-call the next day. But as with any other gatherings, goodbye was long and hard, with the crowd taking up one whole corner of the hotel lobby, officially ending the gathering close to 11pm and many making a promise to meet again on 18 November 2017 in the IMU Bukit Jalil campus for the 25th Anniversary Alumni Homecoming Dinner. The Alumni Relations Office is really excited and gearing up on finalising the details of the Homecoming Dinner. Stay tuned for the announcement!
