Establishment of IPSA at IMU

IMU Pharmacy Students’ Association (IPSA), a student body under the IMU School of Pharmacy, was officially established on 21 March 2018. The  event took place at the Atrium of IMU Bukit Jalil campus from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. Guests of honour at this event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Peter Pook Chuen Keat , Dean of School of Pharmacy, A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli Mat Jusoh, Associate Dean for Academic, School of Pharmacy, Dr Wong Pei Se, Associate Dean for Research & Consultancy, School of Pharmacy, Prof Mallikarjuna Rao Pichika, Pharmacy Programme Director Dr Syed Imran Ahmed, Head of Student Services Hub, Saravanan Muthiah and IPSA advisor, Rohit Kumar Verma. The ceremony kicked off with the opening speech from Boris Ting Ek Wu, the President of IPSA. In his speech, he highlighted the slogan of IPSA, quo melius illac, which is a Latin term that brings the meaning of “in pursuit of being the best”. Other than representing students from the School of Pharmacy and serving as a channel of communication between IMU students and students from other universities, IPSA aims to bring out the best in each and every one of its members. Boris also talked about the future plans of IPSA that is structured into students’ developmental programme and students’ welfare programme. Dean, School of Pharmacy A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli was invited to give a few words of encouragement. He mentioned in his speech that  he hopes that IPSA will be the most prominent and outstanding association among universities. He also added that he wishes to propose IMU as the host for national and international events working for student welfare.

In his speech, Rohit pointed out that being an advisor, it is not easy to form an association – yet it’s more challenging to run the association for long period of time with the same enthusiasm, without conflict of interest and last but not least the outcome of association must be helpful for the community and should be recognised by other National and International associations.

The event proceeded with ribbon-cutting ceremony by Prof Peter Pook, Prof Zulkefeli, Prof Mallikarjun Rao Pichika , Dr Wong Pei Se and Rohit Kumar Verma, officially establishing IPSA under School of Pharmacy, International Medical University, Malaysia. A trophy was then given by A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli Mat Jusoh to Boris Ting. The trophy signifies the responsibility being handed towards the main committee to lead IPSA to the right direction. The certificates of appointment were given to the main committee members by A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli and the ceremony ended with a pledge led by Boris Ting, where all committee members promised to fulfil their responsibilities and would uphold the vision and mission of IPSA.
