12 August – An IMU Dentistry student, Lau Kherr Siong won the first prize for exceptional performance in Oral Presentation at the 43rd Asia Pacific Dental Students Association (APDSA) Congress in Singapore. The title of his presentation is “Development of Oro-Mucoadhesive Triamcinolone Acetonide Bilayered Buccal Tablets for Potential Treatment of Oral Lichen Planus”. This presentation is based on a project with his supervisors, Dr Jithendra Panneerselvam (School of Pharmacy), Dr Md Shahidul Ahsan (School of Dentistry) and Prof Allan Coombes (School of Pharmacy). APDSA was formed in 1968 and an annual congress was launched since 1969. Over 300 students and dentists from more than 13 countries in the region attend this congress held in different places each year. The annual congress serves to forge strong bonds between students across the region, and breed future leaders in dentistry. Scientific Research Competition (SRC) is held annually for undergraduate dental students as part of the APDSA Annual Congress and aims to promote a strong and healthy research amongst students and encourage the seeking and sharing of new knowledge. A total of 15 abstracts from both oral and poster presentation categories were chosen out of over 30 research abstracts from across the Asia Pacific region.

Congratulations to Kherr Siong and his supervisors for this achievement and flying the IMU flag high in the Asia-Pacific region.
