IMU Dietetics with Nutrition Students and Alumni Shine at MDA National Conference

11 – 12 June 2015 – International Medical University (IMU) Dietetics with Nutrition students and alumni did well at the 21st Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA) National Conference, which was held at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur. The students won prizes in oral and poster presentations while two members of our alumni won a prize for oral presentation and best overall dietetics students awards. These achievements have certainly made IMU proud. The prizes won by the students were: 1st Place Best Poster Presentation (Research) “Diet Quality and calcium intake among elderly in Klang Valley” Chong Jia Chee, Wong Jie Ying, Kelly Num 1st Place Best Case Study Poster Presentation for Students “Refeeding in Cachexia and Malnutrition” Ms Ang Hui Inn 3rd Place Best Case Study Oral Presentation (Student) “Diabetic Foot Ulcer : Challenges in Meeting Protein and Energy Requirement” Ms Wendy Wong Hui Yi IMG_1042IMG_0967IMG_1009 The prizes won by the alumni were: 1st place for Best Case Study Oral presentation (Dietitian) Charmaine Lavinia from ND 1/10.She is currently working in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. 2nd place Best Overall Dietetics Student Award Aaron Ang from ND1/10. Aaron is currently working as a dietitian with Medifoods, a local company that operates a healthy eating restaurant in KL. He competed among other graduates from 7 universities offering dietetics in Malaysia for outstanding achievement in academic, community service, leadership and contribution to dietetics arena as a student.

350 delegates attended the conference and the scientific programme had 32 oral presentations and 54 poster presentations.The 21st Malaysian Dietitians’ Association National Conference was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, Minister of Health Malaysia. The theme for this year was “Envisioning the Future to Enhance Practice Today”. ‘This was in line with MDA’s direction of achieving Professionalism, Competency, Visibility and Breakthrough’ said the President of MDA, Prof Winnie Chee Siew Swee.
