IMU Postgraduate Student and Lecturer Shine at Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society Conference

22 – 24 April 2016 – IMU’s postgraduate student, Harvinder Kaur, and Kanimolli Arasu, a lecturer in Division of Nutrition and Dietetics, won the first prize and second prize respectively for their posters at this year’s Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society (MDES) Conference at Nexus Convention Centre, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur. Organised by MDES in collaboration with Ministry of Health Malaysia, the conference was well attended by doctors, diabetes educators, dietitians and nurses. day 3 (228) The poster entitled “Weight Efficacy Lifestyle (WEL) Questionnaire – Validation in Type 2 Diabetes Patients in Primary Care Setting in Malaysia” won Harvinder the first prize. Co-authors of this poster are Dean, School of Health Sciences, Prof Winnie Chee, Clinical A/Prof Verna Lee, Dr Ankur Barua and Siti Zubaidah. Harvinder is currently pursuing her PhD in Medical and Health Science (by Research) at IMU. day 3 (222) Kanimolli Arasu, a lecturer in Division of Nutrition and Dietetics, bagged the second prize with her poster entitled “Carbohydrate Intake Determines Glycaemic Control in CORFIS Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” . Co –authors for this poster were T Karupaiah, Prof Winnie Chee (Dean, School of Health Sciences) , K Chinna & Wong K. The Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society (MDES) Conference saw the participation of 270 delegates. It was organised by Malaysian Diabetes Educators Society, an NGO for all healthcare professionals whom are working with people with diabetes, to enhance the knowledge and skills of diabetes management by translating science into practice.
