IMU’s Dean, School of Health Sciences conferred title of Emeritus Professor by UPM

khor27 October 2013 – IMU’s Dean, School of Health Sciences, Prof Khor Geok Lin, was conferred the prestigious Emeritus Professor award at the 37th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in recognition of her contributions to UPM. This is indeed a great honour not only to her but also to IMU.

The title of Emeritus Professor is normally conferred to Professors who have retired from the university and has had a distinguished career. An Emeritus Professor is entitled to use the professorial title even after retirement.

Commenting on Prof Khor’s award, one of IMU’s Vice-President, Prof Peter Pook said, “My colleagues and I are extremely pleased to hear that Prof Khor Geok Lin has been conferred the Emeritus Professorship by Universiti Putra Malaysia.  Geok Lin’s contribution in research, education and community services in the field of nutrition in Malaysia and other parts of the world will be an enduring legacy.  We are very proud that Geok Lin is continuing to inspire colleagues and students in IMU.”

A Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Prof Khor obtained her first degree in McGill University, Montreal, Canada and later pursued her MSc at University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada and PhD from Social And Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Her research interests are in Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition and Micronutrients in Maternal and Child Health and she has received grants to work in these areas of her research. Prof Khor has published extensively in both international and regional journals and contributed to book chapters in nutrition. She has also received numerous academic awards including the Takemi Fellowship and Fulbright Scholarship, Harvard School of Public Health; Association of Commonwealth Universities Development Fellowship, Monash University, Clayton, Australia; Association of Southeast Asian Institutions for Higher Learning Fellowship, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand; and the Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society (APCNS) Award. Prof Khor is currently the Dean, School of Health Sciences.
