Learning More about Qualitative Research at IMU

IMU ICL FC logo-FINAL 27-28 March 2015 – A workshop on ‘Qualitative Research – Research Design to Publication’ was jointly organised by Quality Research Association of Malaysia (QRAM) and Nursing Division, International Medical University (IMU). The workshop was held at the University’s campus in Bukit Jalil and was attended by 43 participants, who are quality managers, nurse managers, administrators, educators and students from different disciplines from within and outside IMU. Workshop 2 A/Prof Suria Baba, A/Prof Rohaida, Dr Nichole Chen  and Dr Pathmawathi Subramaniam were among the distinguished speakers. The workshop had group work on ‘Review of Qualitative Research Paper’ and ‘Writing a Draft Qualitative Research Proposal’ which was facilitated by Prof Lim Pek Hong, Dr Stephan, Ms Mini Jackson and other QRAM experts. The group activity enriched the participants with the knowledge on critical appraisal of a qualitative research paper and strengthened their skills in writing qualitative research proposal. Workshop 1 The topics covered by the speakers in this workshop are qualitative research process, selecting design for qualitative research project, writing qualitative research project report and publication, data analysis and interpretation of qualitative data and evaluating qualitative research. The overall objective of equipping the participants with the knowledge on qualitative research was accomplished. Most participants stated that the workshop was very informative and strengthened their knowledge on qualitative research; the students stated that they felt more confident in conducting their research projects as they found the information gained during the workshop very useful.
