Preparation Course for MRCS Part A Examination

In collaboration with IMU Centre for Lifelong Learning (ICL), IMU School of Medicine led by the Department of Surgery successfully organised a 12-day (25 lectures) preparatory course entitled “IMU MRCS Part A Preparatory Course”. from 16 July-28 August 2022.

The Department of Surgery at IMU has been running similar courses twice a year for Part B since 2018.

 

The objective of the course is to prepare surgical trainees and those awaiting houseman posting for a career in surgery, master’s degree and the MRCS examination (Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, England & Ireland). The preparatory course was online using Zoom, with 29 lectures in 14 days (7 weekends) course as most of the candidates were engaged in hospital practice.

 

The participants of the course are 33 postgraduate trainees who will be sitting for the upcoming examinations from Malaysia with some from other countries such as the UK. Ireland, Georgia, Australia, Brunei and Maldives. All the facilitators were 16 of our IMU staff in different specialties with exemplary teaching experience.

 

Topics covered were: Basic Sciences in Applied Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology. Principle of Surgery -in- General: Orthopaedics, Vascular, Urology, Head and Neck Surgery, Trauma (Neurosurgery), Peri-operative Management, Plastic (Burns & Skin Tumours), Paediatrics Surgery, Transplantation, Ethics, Statistics & GIT & Revision.

 

Feedback from participants was extremely positive. We put all lecture records in e. Training portal, also our interactive questions bank with explanatory answers. Our next course will be from February – April 2023 for candidates who will apply for the upcoming examinations.
