IMU Announces Appointment of New Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic)

Kuala Lumpur, 1 January 2020 – The International Medical University (IMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof Zabidi Azhar Mohd Hussin as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic. Prof Zabidi succeeds Prof Peter Pook who retired after having served IMU for over 19 years. Prof Peter has been instrumental in developing new programmes for IMU during the early years to what we have grown today. The Management is immensely grateful to Prof Peter for his invaluable contributions in various senior management roles that he has played during his journey in IMU. We wish him all the best in his future undertakings and will definitely miss Prof Peter. Prof Zabidi graduated with a MBBS from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England in 1985 and later received his Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Glasgow in 1987 and his membership to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1991. He was eventually made the Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 1997. With extensive experience in teaching, research and leadership, Prof Zabidi’s field of specialisation lies in Paediatric Neurology and Medical Education with special interest in bioethics and communications skills. Actively involved in research related to child health, he published extensively in numerous acclaimed international journals and received numerous awards for his research papers both locally and internationally. He is also a member of the Ethics Expert Panel for the European Research Agency. Prior to this, Prof Zabidi was the Director of Postgraduate, Research & Innovation with MASHA University. He was also the Vice-Chancellor of Perdana University from 2017-19 and held senior roles in the University Sains Malaysia as Dean of School of Medicine (1999-2005) and General Manager of the USAINS Tech Services (2005-16) while serving as a Professor in Paediatrics at USM. Currently, Prof Zabidi is also a Council Member of the Malaysian Medical Council. Aside from this, IMU has also revised its organisational structure to give more focus on its strategic goals. Re-designation of the IMU’s management team who took up their new roles effective 1 January 2020, includes:
